HOUSTON — A business in Humble is facing a negligence suit after workers doing a job on the premises were struck by falling tiles and suffered injuries.

Tamika Burns, Michael Haywood and Maria Rivera filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against Peng Run Investments Inc., alleging negligence.

According to their complaint, the plaintiffs were working at the direction of the defendant at its business on Highway 59 North in Humble on April 20, 2021. They allege that they were standing under tiles in the building when the tiles suddenly broke off and fell onto their heads.

The plaintiffs claim as a result of the falling tiles, they suffered "extensive" injuries including physical impairment and disfigurement, loss of wages and incurred medical treatment costs. They allege the defendants negligently supervised their subcontractors and employees, failed to protect against work-related hazards and failed to provide a safe work environment. The plaintiffs also allege the defendant did not post any warning signs and were in violation of local, state and federal laws.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Jessica Fritz of The Daspit Law Firm in Houston.
