HOUSTON — The Source for Women of Houston health clinic is facing a breach of contract claim from an independent contractor alleging they failed to pay her more than $9,400 for recruitment and organization of clinic volunteers.

Jemmina Gualy filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against The Source for Women of Houston Inc., and The Source for Women alleging breach of contract.

According to Gualy's complaint, she entered into a written contract with the defendants on March 21, 2019, to obtain and organize volunteers for their clinics throughout Houston at a pay rate of $20 per hour.

She alleges that she provided the defendants with services through April 3, 2020, when the contract was terminated due to layoffs and hour reductions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Gualy further alleges that the defendants failed to pay her for services she provided from Aug. 29, 2019, through April 3, 2020.

She claims that despite repeated requests for payment, the defendants "failed to perform their contractural obligations" and that she is owed $9,490 for her work.

Gualy seeks monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Bruce Johnson of Berg Plummer Johnson & Raval LLP in Houston.
