HOUSTON – After attorney Frederick McGuire left his client with only $825.27 of a $7,500 settlement, the woman posted a one star review of him on Google.

In response to the social media hit, McGuire filed suit against Denise Felix yesterday, seeking $1.2 million in damages from his former client.

According to his lawsuit, McGuire provided legal services for Felix for insurance proceeds involving an auto accident on May 20, 2020. A settlement of $5,000 was received and approved by Felix back in January. McGuire’s cut was 35 percent.

From the $5,000 in coverage and $2,533.72 in personal injury protection, Felix received $825.27.

McGuire, on the other hand, pocketed $2,636.80 in fees, plus $579.65 in expenses. The medical providers received $3,992, the suit states.

On May 21, Felix gave McGuire’s firm a one star Google review and wrote the following: “This law office is the worse, I will never use or refer anyone to use Frederick L McGuire law office in this life or the next.”

McGuire claims Felix defamed him with the post and breached her contract by alleging that he held 90 percent of her funds, which is not the terms of the contract.

He is representing himself.

Filed in Harris County District Court, case No. 2021-49249.
