HOUSTON — A woman alleges a liquid and slippery substance allowed to remain on the floor at a Popeyes in Humble caused her fall and injuries.

Joyce Cockrell filed a complaint Aug. 30 in Harris County District Court against Popeyes Lousiana Kitchen Inc., alleging premises liability.

According to Cockrell's complaint, she was on the defendant's premises in Humble on Sept. 22, 2020. She claims she slipped and fell on a "liquid/slippery" substance that had remained on the floor and suffered injuries.

Cockrell alleges the defendant failed to maintain its premises and failed to supervise its employees and implement procedures to ensure the floor of their premises was clean and did not pose a hazard.

She also alleges the defendant failed to remove the hazard on the floor within a reasonable amount of time or warn of the unsafe condition. Cockrell claims as a result of her slip and fall, she suffered pain, impairment and mental anguish.

Cockrell seeks monetary relief of more than $75,000, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Ivan Capellan and Lizeth Jacobo of Hightower/Capellan in Houston.
