HOUSTON — A roofer claims his employer's lack of proper equipment and other negligence led to his fall from an apartment complex roof.

Jose Manuel Bravo Bravo filed a complaint Sept. 13 in Harris County District Court against JNL Roofing Contractors Inc., alleging negligence.

Bravo was working for JNL on Sept. 13, 2019, on a roofing project at an apartment complex on Briar Forest Drive in Houston, according to his complaint. He alleges that while removing the underlayment which was "wet, rotten and slippery" he had to be hooked to a lanyard which was too short.

He alleges when he unhooked the lanyard to get to the ladder, he slipped and fell off the roof, suffered fractures and required surgery. Bravo claims JNL's negligence for failing to take adequate precautions or properly train its employees.

He also claims JNL failed to warn him of the dangers or reasonably mitigate the risks at the job site, failed to properly supervise its workers or have adequate equipment.

Bravo seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney H. Frank Barrientos in Houston.
