HOUSTON — A  boating repair company worker who suffered burns while working on a yacht is claiming negligence.

Mario Velasquez filed a complaint Sept. 27 in Harris County District Court against Jerry Mahle doing business as Lighthouse Yacht Works alleging negligence.

Velasquez was doing work inside a boat in Santa Fe for the defendants on Aug. 16, 2021, according to his suit. He alleges that suddenly and without warning, a "hot flash" erupted inside the boat and caused him to suffer burns to his face.

He claims the defendants failed to provide him with proper training and equipment to complete his work. Velasquez further claims the defendants failed to provide adequate assistance or supervision while he was performing the tasks he was assigned.

He also claims as a result of the accident, he suffered disfigurement, impairment, lost wages, mental anguish and incurred medical care expenses.

Velasquez seeks monetary relief of more than $1million, interest and all other just relief.

He is represented by Vuk Vujasinovic of VB Attorneys in Houston.
