HOUSTON — Tenants of a Houston apartment complex allege their unit was infested with bed bugs.

Toni Mayze and Vincent Flannory II filed a complaint Sept. 27 in Harris County District Court against Parkland-SCG LLC doing business as Parkland At West Oaks, ZRS Management LLC and Southstar Management LLC alleging negligence and violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The plaintiffs became tenants of the Parkland West Oaks apartment complex located on West Hollow Lane in Houston in November of 2019, according to their complaint. They allege that the morning after moving into the apartment, they woke up itching and developed painful lesions from bed bugs.

The plaintiffs further allege they made numerous complaints to the management office and had their apartment inspected by an exterminator which revealed a bed bug infestation "had been there for quite some time" and prior to their moving in the unit.

They claim the defendants' negligence for failing to rent property in a reasonably safe condition, failing to inspect the property and properly clean the unit prior to renting. The plaintiffs also claim the defendants failed to disclose prior bed bug activity or properly treat the infestation.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by Tad Rice of The Rice Law Firm in The Woodlands.
