HOUSTON — A homeowner alleges her contractor provided faulty electrical wiring and installation on the cottage she hired then to build.

Lisbet de Salem filed a complaint Sept. 30 in Harris County District Court against Courtland Building Company Inc., alleging negligence, violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and breach of warranty and breach of contract.

Salem entered into a contract with Courtland Building to construct a casita at her home that included electrical wiring and installation and to be done in compliance with building codes.

She claims that after the project was done, she discovered electrical wires tripping and that after hiring an independent electrician in November of 2020, it was discovered there were "numerous deficiencies" with the defendant's work.

Salem further claims she notified Courtland Building and that they have failed to address the issues.  She alleges Courtland Building falsely represented that their goods or services were of a particular standard and quality when the work was not done properly.

Salem seeks monetary relief of $100,000 or less, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Ernest "Butch" Boyd, Jermey Stone and Michael Blanchard of The Butch Boyd Law Firm in Houston.
