Oil rig worker allegedly knocked unconscious by pipe sues for $1M plus

HOUSTON — An oil rig worker who was knocked unconscious when a pipe smashed into his head is claiming negligence and premises liability.

Ruben Holguin filed a complaint Oct. 2 in Harris County District Court against Grit Oil & Gas Management LLC alleging negligence and premises liability. 

Holguin alleges in his complaint that he was working for Savanna Drilling on Oct. 3, 2021, at a well site owned and operated by Grit Oil. He claims as he was standing on the platform of the drilling rig, a pipe smashed into his head and knocked him unconscious. 

Holguin further alleges as a result of the accident, he suffered injuries to his head, neck and back and incurred medical treatment expenses. He claims Grit Oil's neglience for failing to supervise the site, provide adequate training or warn of the dangerous condition. Holguin also claims Grit Oil failed to properly oversee safety in the work area and violated OSHA regulations.  

Holguin seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Muhammad Aziz and David Baluk of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner in Houston and Juan Reyna of Reyna Injury Lawyers PC in Corpus Christi.
