HOUSTON — A mother alleges a stranger was allowed to come into Memorial Herman Health's Neonatal unit and feed and hold her newborn while she was not allowed to see her baby.

Ifeoma Esimogu filed a complaint Nov. 1 in Harris County District Court against Memorial Hermann Health System alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Esimogu gave birth to twins at Memorial Herman Health on Nov. 18, 2020. She alleges that one of twins, her son Tobenna, was put in the Neonatal intensive care unit. Esimogu claims she was not allowed to hold or carry him, yet due to a breach of security, a "person unknown" to her and her family was allowed to go into the unit and hold and feed her son for "a quite lengthy period of time."

She further claims that she has suffered severe emotional trauma and distress as well as post-traumatic stress disorder and damages. Esimogu alleges Memorial Herman failed to exercise a degree of care that a reasonably careful facility would use to avoid the incident and failed to keep a proper lookout for her safety and the safety of her newborn.

Esimogu seeks monetary relief of less than $250,000, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Sope Lawson of The Law Office of Sope Lawson in Houston.
