HOUSTON — A woman claims she tripped over an unsecured and worn out mat at the Hilton Houston Plaza/Medical Center and suffered multiple injuries.

Patricia Stroup filed a complaint Nov. 1 in Harris County Disrict Court against Houston Medical Center Hotel LLC alleging negligence and premises liability.

Stroup alleges in her suit that while at the defendant's Hilton Houston Plaza/Medical Center on Travis Street, she tripped over an unsecured cardboard mat in the front desk guest entry way and suffered injuries.

She claims the mat was not flush with the floor, had been there for some time and was worn and soiled. Stroup alleges the defendants should have known the mat was in an unreasonably dangerous condition and were negligent for improperly maintaining and repairing their guest entrance.

She claims she suffered pain, mental anguish and incurred medical expenses as a result of her fall and that the hotel failed to adequately warn of the hazard which posed an unreasonable risk of harm.

Stroup seeks monetary relief of $250,000 or less, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by James Blackwell of The Blackwell Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
