Estate of apartment tenant fatally shot by car burglary suspect claims wrongful death

HOUSTON — The estate of an apartment complex tenant who was fatally shot by car burglary suspects is claiming wrongful death. 

Angela Gordon, individually and as representative of the Estate of Joseph Gordon filed a complaint Nov. 19 in Harris County District Court against El Sol Del Rio Apartment Homes doing business as JSN Apartments LLC alleging negligence, wrongful death and other claims. 

According to the plaintiff's complaint, Joseph Gordon lived at the Del Rio Apartment complex. She alleges that on April 8, 2020, as Gordon pulled into the complex, the security guard asked for his assistance in "chasing down" several individuals who had burglarized several cars in the complex. 

The plaintiff further alleges that as the guard and Gordon chased the suspects on foot, one of the suspects fired six shots at Gordon which were fatal. She claims the defendants failed to maintain a safe premises for tenants, have adequate security at its apartment complex and did not properly monitor the premises, all which led to Gordon's death. 

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Randall Sorrels, Alexandra Farias-Sorrels and Troy Rockrise of Sorrels Law in Houston.
