HOUSTON — A seaman alleges he suffered severe injuries due to the unseaworthiness of Ensco Offshore's vessel.
Brian Lazard filed a complaint Nov. 19 in Harris County District Court against Ensco Offshore LLC alleging Jones Act and Unseaworthiness.
Lazard, according to his complaint, was working for Ensco Offshore aboard the Ensco 87 on Sept. 15, 2020. He alleges that as he was operating the crane and descending the ladder, he "felt a sharp pain" in his knee when he reached the bottom of the ladder. Lazard claims he suffered severe injury to his knee that required two surgeries and in addition, also suffered injuries to his back which also required surgery.
He further claims Ensco Offshore failed to provide him with a safe place to work and a seaworthy vessel. He alleges Ensco also failed to properly train him or give him the proper tools and equipment necessary to do his duties. Lazard also alleges the defendant failed to comply with industry standards to prevent hazardous conditions for the crew such as having anti-slip coating on the stairways and hallways of the vessel.
Lazard seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Brian Beckcom and Brendan Fradkin of VB Attorneys in Houston.
