HOUSTON — A person is alleging serious injuries were suffered when the steps at a church in Katy collapsed.

Yolanda Baptiste filed a complaint Dec. 16 in Harris County District Court against God's Temple of Praise Community Church Inc., and Destiny International Missions alleging negligence and liability.

Baptiste alleges in the suit that while entering the side entrance to defendants' church building located at Westfield Parkway in Katy, the steps collapsed and caused the plaintiff to fall and suffer "serious and lasting" injuries.

The plaintiff claims the defendants failed to maintain the building in a safe condition, failed to warn of the danger and had deficient policies, management, inspection and communication and did not act prudently. Baptiste also claims the defendants allowed the broken, dangerous piece of loose steps that lacked adequate safety measures and protections. The plaintiff alleges as a result of falling on the collapsed steps, they suffered pain, impairment, disfigurement and mental anguish.

Baptiste seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. The plaintiff is represented by Chuckwudi Egbuonu of The Law Offices of Chuckwudi Egbuonu in Houston.
