AUSTIN - The Weslaco Independent School District has sent a request to the Office of the Attorney General to enter into a professional services agreement with legal counsel regarding an insurance claim dispute concerning Hurricane Hanna's effects on its facilities.

The district’s request for review and approval of a contingent fee contract was sent to the OAG on Dec. 1, records show.

Documents further show that Weslaco ISD received a decision by its insurance carrier and the board of trustees determined the district needed a law firm to analyze the decision.

The district seeks to hire the law firm of Flores & Palaez-Prada, which specializes in insurance litigation.

According to the contingent contract, the rate schedule is as follows:

  • Marco D. Flores, Senior Counsel $500/hour
  • All other Senior Counsel $450/hour
  • Jake Rogiers, Senior Associate: $400/hour
  • All other Associates: $350/hour
  • All Paralegals: $150/hour
