HOUSTON — A woman alleges she suffered injuries after tripping over an electrical box and duct taped extension cords during an exhibit at the Houston Marriott Marquis.

Lacy Riddle filed a complaint Jan. 24 in Harris County District Court against Marriott Marquis Houston and State of Texas Association of Rheumatologists also known as STAR.

Riddle was at the STAR exhibit at the Marriott Marquis in Houston on Feb. 29, 2020. She alleges that while in the exhibit hall, she tripped over the floor box which had several extension cords plugged in to it and which were duct taped to the box in a pattern resembling the carpet.

She further alleges the box was "partially concealed" by drapery on the side of the table.

Riddle alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to keep a proper lookout to the walkway, failing to warn of the electrical floor box and for failing to keep the walkway in the exhibit hall free from hazards. She also alleges the defendants failed to make their premises safe for invitees and that as a result of her fall, she suffered pain, impairment, lost wages and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Riddle seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by S. Rafe Foreman, and Susan Hutchison of Hutchinson & Foreman PLLC in Lubbock.
