HOUSTON — A worker aboard a vessel doing contract work for Chevron is claiming negligence after suffering injuries while detaching a fuel hose.

Terry Boutte, Jr., filed a complaint Feb. 8 in Harris County District Court against Jackson Offshore Operators LLc and Chevron USA Inc., alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Boutte was a seaman working aboard Jackson Offshore's M/V Cajun IV on Dec. 5, 2021, and doing contract work for Chevron. He alleges that while the vessel was connected to  Chevron's Genesis platform-Green Canyon, he was transferring fuel as an engineer on deck. He further alleges that when the current picked up, the vessel did not hold steady in position which required the crew to unhook the fuel hose.

Boutte claims he hose got stuck on a shackle of the tote tank and caused him to suffer injuries to his fingers and other parts of his body. He claims the defendants were negligent for failing to properly maintain, inspect and repair the vessel, for not having an adequate crew and did not warn of the danger. Boutte also claims the defendants failed to have adequate training or proper safety polices and violated Coast Guard, OSHA and other applicable rules.

Boutte seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jason Itkin and Trenton Shelton of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
