HOUSTON — A woman alleges her father's death was the result of poor care at a Humble area nursing facility.

Devin Porterie, individually as the sole wrongful death beneficiary and as independent administratrix of the Estate of Walter E. White, Jr., deceased filed a complaint March 12 in Harris County District Court against HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, Crimson Heights Health & Wellness and others alleging medical malpractice.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, her father, Walter White, was admitted to Crimson Heights Health & Wellness nursing facility in January of 2020. The plaintiff claims while at Crimson Heights, White developed a hip pressure injury and sacral pressure injury and in April of that year, was treated at HCA Houston Healthcare for infection of the pressure injuries.

She further claims when White returned to Crimson Heights, his pressure injuries continued to worsen and was admitted to Memorial Herman Northeast for "aggressive wound care and debridements." Also according to the plaintiff's complaint, White died on Feb. 27, 2021, due to sepsis and bronchopneumonia and had multiple skin lesions which contributed to his death.

Porterie alleges the defendants breached the standard of care in their treatment of her father by failing to prevent his pressure injuries, failing to hire competent staff or have a sufficient number of staff to provide nursing care or have adequate supervision.

Porterie seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Mary Green of Pierce Skrabanek PLLC in Houston.
