HOUSTON — A man claims he suffered serious injuries after hot coffee was spilled on his lap at a McDonald's drive-thru in Houston.

Israel Corona filed a complaint April 10 in Harris County District Court against Shelwar A, Inc., alleging negligence.

Corona, according to his complaint, was at the defendant's McDonald's on Clearwood Drive in Houston on Aug. 13, 2021. He alleges that as he went through the drive-thru to receive his coffee, the McDonald's worker at the drive-thru spilled the hot coffee onto his lap. Corona claims he was rushed to the urgent care and suffered "significant and debilitating" injuries that still require medical treatment.

He alleges the defendant's negligence for failing to properly serve hot beverages and failing to warn of the dangerous condition through verbal or other warning. He also alleges the McDonald's employee knew or should have known of the hazard by serving the hot coffee and that the defendant negligently hired and supervised its employees. Corona claims he also suffered physical impairment, lost wages and incurred medical treatment expenses as a result of the accident.

Corona seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief.

He is represented by Chelsea Murfree and Adam Ramji of The Ramji Law Group in Houston.
