HOUSTON — A woman with a shellfish allergy who suffered a severe allergic reaction after a Mexican restaurant mistakenly put shrimp in her food, is claiming negligence.

Bianca Adams filed a complaint  April 19 in Harris County District Court against Ambriza Social Mexican Kitchen alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Adams was eating at Ambriza on Barker Cypress Road in Cypress on Oct. 18, 2020. She claims that she ordered chicken enchiladas and specifically told the waiter she had an allergy to shellfish. She further claims that when her food arrived, the enchiladas were covered with cheese and she did not realize the enchiladas were filled with shrimp instead of chicken. Adams alleges her throat began to swell and that her severe allergic reaction caused her to lose consciousness and to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

She further alleges the defendant acknowledged there was a "miscommunication" on her food order between the waiter and the chef. Adams claims Ambriza failed to exercise ordinary care or give her any medical attention. She also claims she suffered mental, physical and emotional trauma as a result of the restaurant's negligence.

Adams seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jonathan Cox of The Cox Pradia Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
