Man sues apartment complex owners after elevator drop

HOUSTON — A man is claiming liability against the owners of a Houston apartment complex after an elevator drop caused him to suffer serious injuries.  

Serkan Askan filed a complaint  May 2 in Harris County District Court against Broadstone Lofts at Hermann Park LLC and Broadstone Lofts at Hermann Park Alliance LLC alleging liability. 

According to Askan's complaint, he was inside the elevator at Broadstone Lofts on Hermann Park Court in Houston on June 12, 2020. He alleges the elevator suddenly dropped one floor and caused him to suffer injuries. 

Askan alleges the defendants failed to inspect their premises and make the dangerous condition safe, failed to provide a safe means of ingress and egress for invitees on the premises and failed to properly train its employees. 

He also alleges the defendants did not warn of the hazard and failed to have a regular maintenance schedule to eliminate any dangerous conditions. Askan claims as a result of the elevator drop, he suffered disability, mental anguish, lost earnings and incurred medical treatment expenses including for nursing as well as life-care.

Askan seeks monetary relief of more than $250,000, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Shawn Ozlat of Ozlat Injury Lawyers in Houston.
