GALVESTON — A family alleges they were injured at a Galveston water park after riders behind them collided into their inner tube.

Kara Kammerer, individually and Patrick Kammerer, Individually and as next of friend of minor J.K., filed a complaint May 26 in Galveston County District Court against Galveston Island Water Park L.P., doing business as Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston alleging negligence and premises liability.

Kara Kammerer and her minor daughter, J.K., were at Schlitterbahn waterpark on Aug. 6, 2020, according to the complaint. They claim that while riding on a two-person inner tube on the "MASSIV Monster Blaster" ride, the defendant's employee allowed another set of riders to prematurely begin their high-speed ride. The plaintiffs allege the riders who came behind them "violently collided" with them and caused them to suffer injuries.

The plaintiffs allege Schlitterbahn's negligence for failing to properly supervise and train their employees and for their failure to provide a safe facility. They also allege Schlitterbahn failed to warn of the hazards, created a dangerous situation and did not follow industry standards. The plaintiffs claim Schlitterbahn had actual knowledge or reasonably should have known the dangerous condition existed.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Ian Hernandez and Jimmy Sunosky of Hernandez Sunosky LLP in Houston.
