Woman alleges she fell over rusted metal edge at Texas City Gas station

GALVESTON — A women alleges she fell over a rusted metal edge on a gas pump at a Texas Avenue Gas Store in Texas City and suffered injuries. 

Cora Cotton filed a complaint May 24 in Galveston County District Court against SZ Corp., doing business as Texas Avenue Gas Store and Ryss Ventures LLC alleging negligence and premises liability.  

Cotton, according to her suit, was at the Texas Avenue Gas Store in Texas City on May 1, 2021. She alleges she pulled her car up to the gas pumps and went inside the store to pay for her gas. She claims as she was walking back out of the store, her foot got caught on a "rusted and deteriorated" metal on the edge of the gas pump. 

Cotton alleges she fell and suffered serious injuries including impairment and disfigurement. She further alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to maintain their premises and eliminate the dangerous condition. She claims the defendants were also negligent for failing to train and supervise their employees or give adequate warnings about the hazard. Cotton also claims as a result of her fall, she suffered lost wages and incurred medical treatment expenses. 

Cotton seeks monetary relief between $75,000 and $250,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Sofia Bruera of The Bruera Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
