HOUSTON — A real estate agent claims defamatory statements made about her on Nextdoor caused her business loss and harassment.

Marina Okorocha filed a complaint June 6 in Harris County District Court against Kay Finch alleging libel

According to Okorocha's complaint, she formed Alfa and The Omega Realty LLC in January of 2022. She alleges that while attempting to do a showing at a property in Spring on April 5, 2022, Finch denied her access to show the home. Okorocha claims she then advised the seller's real estate agent and left the property. She further claims there was a property mixup/miscommunication with the seller's agent and that shortly after the incident, Finch posted photos of her vehicle, including the advertisement on her car with her real estate business and phone number visible, on the social media application Nexdoor's "safety" section.

Okorocha alleges Finch's post stated to "beware" of her and falsely stated she wanted to come in and video her house for no reason. Okorocha also alleges the post, which received 75 comments, made her out to be an alleged criminal and intruder in the neighborhood when she was a licensed realtor and legitimate businessperson in the area. She claims as a result of Finch's false post, she has been followed, photographed and harassed by members of the public and that her business has suffered damage due to the negative public response from the defamatory post.

Okorocha seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Nicholas Armer of Armer Law PC in Dallas.
