BEAUMONT - Two law partners at The Ferguson Law Firm, Cody A. Dishon and Paul “Chip” Ferguson, finalized a $1,750,000 settlement for a 17-year-old young lady who suffered a mild traumatic brain injury in a motor vehicle collision, a press release states.
The accident occurred in Jasper County and led to a hard-fought and hotly disputed lawsuit that resolved shortly before trial, the press release states.

“Any traumatic brain injury, from mild to severe, changes your life in many ways," Dishon said. "However, proving a mild traumatic brain injury in Court presents significant challenges. These brain injuries are not easy to diagnose and understand. After speaking with this young lady and her family, we understood the real impact this injury was having. We spent countless hours researching the medical science and testing, as well as relying on well-respected health care providers to prove and explain the existence and long-term impacts of her brain injury.
"We are happy to resolve this difficult case with a voluntary settlement shortly before trial.”
A mild traumatic brain injury does not show up on standard diagnostic tests like MRIs and CT scans, even though its victims develop headaches, memory problems, dizziness, and behavioral changes. More recent scans such as Diffuse Tensor Imaging are more sensitive to the injuries found in mild traumatic brain injuries, the press release states.
“We better understand how trauma causes diffuse axonal shearing, or the tearing of the connectors between the brain’s neurons,” Ferguson said. “This disrupts the brain’s ability to transmit information and produces the debilitating symptoms of the so-called mild traumatic brain injury. For the victim, there is nothing mild about it.”
The Ferguson Law Firm represents victims who have suffered traumatic brain injuries and continues to be nationally recognized for record-breaking recoveries. Ferguson and Dishon recently settled another similar brain injury case for $3.8 million, once again proving the law firm’s commitment to victims of this injury, the press release states.
