GALVESTON — A former bank senior vice president alleges she was fired because of her race and age.

Angela F. Brooks filed a complaint July 21 in Galveston County District Court against Hometown Bank NA alleging race and age discrimination, retaliation and other claims.

Brooks, a 62-year African American female, began working for Hometown Bank in 1980 as a teller and eventually reached the position of senior vice president, according to her complaint. She alleges that in September of 2021 she was "confronted" by a Caucasian manager regarding a computer and reported the workplace harassment.

Brooks further alleges that in October of 2021, she was placed on leave for allegedly violating the bank's code of ethics policy due to her activities with certain accounts and customers and was terminated on Nov. 16, 2021. She claims Hometown's investigation regarding her alleged violation of the bank's ethics policy showed other employees violated the policy, however, the violations were not enforced against non-African American employees.

Brooks alleges Hometown's actions violate the Texas Labor Code and that as a result of those actions, she suffered lost compensation including retirement packages as well as damage to her reputation.

Brooks seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Charles Dunkel, Jr., of Thomson Dunkel Law PLLC in League City.
