McGuireWoods Houston partner Demetra Liggins has been recognized as a “Diversity and Inclusion Champion” by Texas Lawyer in the Texas Legal Awards. The award recognizes lawyers who overcame insurmountable odds to achieve success or had an outsized influence on inclusivity initiatives.
An accomplished bankruptcy lawyer, Liggins has more than two decades of experience in business finance and restructuring for public and private companies. She is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and finance topics, as well as on diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and the wider business community.
Liggins co-founded Corporate Homie, an innovative platform that helps women and people of color build a community of support to advance in the corporate world. She has been recognized as one of the “Premier Women in the Law” by the Houston Association of Women Attorneys, received the Rick Palmore LCLD Alumni Award from the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, and was recognized as a Law Firm Rainmaker by Diversity & the Bar magazine, a Minority Corporate Counsel Association publication.
“I am proud to receive this honor from Texas Lawyer,” said Liggins. “I look forward to continuing to share my knowledge with women and professionals of color to help them reach their full potential.”
Yasser Madriz, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Houston office, added: “I am delighted that Demetra’s contributions to promoting diversity have been recognized. McGuireWoods is fortunate to have talented lawyers such as Demetra who work diligently for their clients and their communities.”
The Texas Legal Awards dinner reception will take place Sept. 14, 2022, at the Arts District Mansion in Dallas.
