Suit: Target employee allegedly hits customer with motorized cart hauler

HOUSTON — A Target customer who was allegedly struck by a motorized cart hauler at one of its stores in Houston is claiming negligence. 

Alma Orta filed a complaint Aug. 16 in Harris County District Court against Target Corporation alleging negligence.

According to Orta's complaint, she was at the Target on South Sam Houston Parkway on April 29, 2020. She claims that as she was wiping down a shopping cart, she was suddenly struck by a motorized cart hauler operated by a Target employee. Orta alleges she was struck with severe impact and suffered injuries. 

She further alleges Target's negligence for failing to provide her with adequate assistance, creating a dangerous condition and failing to maintain a hazard free premises. Orta claims Target was also negligent for failing to warn of the hazard and for disregarding her safety. She also claims as a result of her injuries she suffered pain, impairment, mental anguish and incurred medical care expenses. 

Orta seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Enrique Ramirez of Enrique C. Ramirez PC in Houston.
