HOUSTON - The parents of a six-year old girl who was tragically killed after being run over by a school bus are suing the school district and bus manufacturer.
The wrongful death lawsuit was filed on behalf of Sean and Tori Sayre, individually and as representatives of the estate of Emory Sayre. The lawsuit names Blue Bird Body Company, Brock Independent School District, and Rush Truck Centers of Texas as defendants.
According to a press release, on April 25 Emory was tragically killed after being run over by a Brock ISD school bus. While unloading at the stop across from her house, Emory was the last of three students to walk in front of the bus before crossing the street. As Emory began walking in front of the bus, the bus driver started driving away unaware that a child was present. Emory was hit and fell under the front right of the bus, sustaining fatal injuries.
The lawsuit alleges design defects against the manufacturer of the bus for not installing student detection systems and school bus motion sensor technology. Life-saving technologies designed to prevent tragedies such as this have been available for years and should be required given the gravity of the dangers involved.
The plaintiffs are represented by Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner partner Mo Aziz, and attorneys, Karl Long and Morgan Mills, together with Nicholas Rodriguez and Kevin Koudelka of Richardson Koudelka.
