HOUSTON — A high school student at a private school in Pasadena is claiming the school and coach's negligence after being struck by a discus during track team practice.
Andrew Bright filed a complaint Sept. 27 in Harris County District Court against First Baptist Christian Academy of Pasadena and Michael Ritthaler alleging negligence.
According to his complaint, Bright was a high school student at First Baptist Christian Academy and was participating in a track team practice on March 8, 2022. He claims that at the team practice, which was being supervised by Ritthaler, he was struck in the head with a thrown discus and suffered severe and permanent injuries. Bright claims Ritthaler's negligence for failing to train and supervise his students on safe discus throwing and allowed students to discus throw without a cage.
He claims the negligence of First Baptist Academy for failing to train and supervise its coaches and for failing to establish safety rules for discus throwing. Bright alleges he has suffered pain, impairment, disfigurement and incurred medical expenses as a result of being struck by the discus.
Bright seeks monetary relief interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Russell Burwell, III of Burwell Nebout in League City.
