HOUSTON — A tenant alleges that defective fire alarms continuously going off at his apartment complex has permanently damaged his hearing.

James Hale filed a complaint  Oct. 11 in Harris County District Court against Lanesborough Corporation alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Hale was a tenant at the Lanesborough Apartments in Houston. He claims that in March 2021, he complained to the defendant about the fire alarms in his building which consistently keep going off and bothering his hearing. Hale further claims that after finally attempting to repair the fire alarms, they continued to go off on a regular basis.

He alleges that by March 26, 2021, damage to his hearing had already occurred and he began to experience ringing in his ears. Hale also alleges that he was diagnosed with an ENT specialist as having tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. He claims the defendant's negligence knew the fire alarms at the apartment complex were in need of repair and affecting his hearing and failed to correct the issue.

Hale seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jared Flynn of Flynn Law LLC in Houston.
