HOUSTON — The Houston Independent School District is facing a claim of discrimination and retaliation from a former employee.
James Wilmore filed a complaint Oct. 16 in Harris County District Court against Houston Independent School District alleging discrimination and retaliation.
Wilmore, who according to is complaint, is a member of a protected class, filed a charge of discrimination and retaliation against the Houston Independent School District with the EEOC and received a right to sue in August of 2022. He claims he was terminated by the school district on July 25, 2019, based on "false allegations of untruthfulness" in violation of the Texas Labor Code.
Specifically, Wilmore claims he was accused of lying about wrecking his vehicle and not reporting it and claims the investigation into the alleged wreck was a "retaliatory discriminatory witch hunt." He further claims he was terminated by the school board on July 25, 2019, based on false allegations and that similarly situated employees who wrecked their vehicles without reporting the wreck were allowed to keep their employment. Wilmore alleges as a result of the defendant's discrimination and retaliation, he suffered lost wages, mental anguish and other damages.
Wilmore seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Todd White of The White Law Firm in Houston.
