Jones Day again named "Texas Litigation Department of the Year" by The American Lawyer

Jones Day received The American Lawyer's "Texas Litigation Department of the Year" award for 2022, the second consecutive year the Firm was named the winner. The award recognizes litigation results that demonstrate excellence in representing the Firm's clients on matters led by our Texas litigation lawyers on "high-stakes matters, setting important precedent and providing exceptional lawyering."

"Our Texas-based teams earn great results for the Firm's clients through their cutting edge legal strategy, deep skill and experience that is often national and international in scope, and consistent intensity of effort," said John Majoras, co-leader of the Business & Tort Litigation Practice. "We take great pride in our deep bench of Texas-based lawyers, and their consistency in prevailing for clients with innovative arguments that result in such excellent outcomes, and we're thrilled to be named the winner in two straight years."

Jones Day's litigators in Dallas and Houston remain at the forefront of significant litigation in Texas and across the United States with a year punctuated by trial victories and successful motion practice. Significant achievements include securing a landmark antitrust class action jury verdict; employing winning strategies on behalf of a network of air-ambulance providers to combat state laws seeking to regulate rates and prevent membership programs; obtaining dismissal of all claims against a global software company in a trade secret, copyright, and antitrust lawsuit; winning summary judgment in a D&O insurance case involving the insurability of settlements under the False Claims Act; and prevailing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to protect a cutting edge structure to resolve mass tort liability claims.

"More than 70 litigators in Texas work hard to protect and advance our clients' interests in critical, bet-the-company matters; in federal and state courts throughout the United States; and internal and government investigations in Texas, Mexico, and around the world," said Matthew A. Kairis, Partner-in-Charge of the Texas Region. "I'm so proud of this great team for the results it continues to earn, and I treasure the sustained effort our lawyers in Dallas and Houston provide on behalf of our clients."

The American Lawyer's annual industry awards program honors firms and individuals that clients turned to "in search of answers to their most pressing problems," and the " … firms (that) showed up time and time again with novel solutions, preserving civil rights and corporate livelihoods all the same."
