HOUSTON — A seaman alleges lack of proper personal protection equipment caused his injuries.
Jacky Elliott filed a complaint Jan. 23 in Harris County District Court against Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc., alleging negligence and unseaworthiness.
Elliott, according to his complaint, was employed as a noble on the defendant's Helix Q400 vessel. He alleges that on July 15, 2021, he was ordered to assist with cleaning the vessel and given a flash suit that was "ill-fitting" and while attempting to put on the suit, he severely injured his shoulder. Elliott claims that he requested a larger suit, however his supervisor ordered him to continue working and mocked his inability to put on the suit.
He also alleges the defendant failed to provide a safe place to work and a seaworthy vessel. Elliott also alleges the defendant failed to properly train him and other members of the Helix crew or give them proper tools and equipment including proper fitting personal protection equipment. He claims he suffered injuries to his back, neck, shoulders and suffered lost wages and incurred medical treatment expenses.
Elliott seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Brian Beckcom and Brendan Fradkin of VB Attorneys in Houston.
