HOUSTON  — Tenants at Houston apartment complex allege their unit was infested with bed bugs.

Amy Morrison and Deborah Morrison filed a complaint Feb. 1 in Harris County District Court against Kingwood Houston Oaks Limited Partnership also known as Oaks of Kingwood Apartments alleging negligence, violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and breach of contract.

The plaintiffs, according to their complaint, were residing at the Oaks of Kingwood Apartments in Kingwood in July of 2021 when Deborah Morrison began to notice painful lesions all over her body. They claim the lesions were from bed bugs that were crawling in their unit and that an exterminator inspection revealed a bed bug infestation in the apartment.

The plaintiffs allege the defendant's negligence for failing to rent the property in a reasonably safe condition, failing to inspect and clean the property prior to renting and failing to notify them of the bedbug risk. The plaintiffs also allege the defendant failed to treat the infestation to properly eradicate the bugs.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by Daniel Rice of The Rice Firm in The Woodlands.
