GALVESTON — A League City resident alleges fire crews could not save his home or belongings due to an inoperable fire hydrant near his residence.

Kory Cox filed a complaint Feb. 27 in Galveston County District Court against Chuck Beare doing business as hydrant.com alleging negligence.

According to Cox's complaint, the defendant was hired by the City of League City to maintain, inspect and repair public fire hydrants. He claims that on June 27, 2022, a fire broke out at his home on Modeste Drive in League City and that due to a water supply failure with the hydrant nearest to his residence, fire crews had to locate another firewater source. Cox alleges that the delay in gaining firewater resulted in most of his home and personal belongings being destroyed.

He further alleges that fire personnel could have mitigated the fire damage if the fire hydrant closest to his home would have been operable. Cox claims the defendant's negligence for failing to inspect, maintain and report that the fire hydrant was not in operation. He also claims the defendant negligently failed to train its employees, have adequate maintenance reports or proper policies in place.

Cox seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Andrew Bivona of Bivona Law PLLC in Houston.
