BEAUMONT - The Ferguson Law Firm has reeled in yet another top tier settlement, garnering a $14,000,000 settlement for two local men injured when an 18-wheeler slammed into the back of their respective vehicles, a press release states.

The two men were represented by firm managing partner, Paul "Chip" Ferguson.

“These two men had serious spinal surgeries. They were left with permanent disabilities and lost the ability to care for their families,” Ferguson said.

One of the men was sixty-two years of age and the other fifty years old. Both resided in Southeast Texas.

Ferguson added, “This is another unfortunate example of what happens when transportation companies pay more attention to the bottom line instead of safety. An eighteen-wheeler weighs up to forty tons and is a dangerous instrument in the hands of an unsafe or untrained driver. This case is sad testament to that.”

He also noted that, while motor vehicle crashes have seen a general decrease over the past few years, the number of crashes with eighteen-wheelers has increased.

“Approximately 500,000 people in this country are injured due to these large trucks," Ferguson said. "Of those, nearly 5,000 are fatalities. The failure of the transportation industry to emphasize safety and training is appalling. These numbers show the cost in human suffering.”

The particulars of the settlement are confidential, meaning Ferguson could not reveal the specifics of the crash or the identities of those involved.

“Here, the eighteen-wheeler company fought us tooth and nail. It contested anything and everything. It tried our resolve. We were simply determined that we wouldn’t back down.” Ferguson said. “There were thousands of pages of testimony and more than a thousand pages of documents. We went through every one of those. It was a true team effort and a special thanks goes out to my paralegal staff: Ashlie Allen, Melissa Wesolowski, and Yulisa Ceja. Without them, this result would not have happened.  They are truly the best in the business.

"I am also very appreciative of having yet another opportunity to work with Jon Healy and Packard Lapray. They are wonderful colleagues and worked shoulder-to-shoulder with us to achieve this result."

The Ferguson Law Firm maintains its office at its new location of 3155 Executive Boulevard, Beaumont, Texas. The 50,000 square foot building houses all law firm offices as well as a full courtroom.

The firm continues its goal of getting the best result for every client, every time, the press release states.
