A slip-and-fall incident at a grocery store has led to a significant legal battle, highlighting the responsibilities of businesses in maintaining safe premises for their customers. Corey Talbert filed a complaint against H. E. Butt Grocery Company, H-E-B Food Stores, Inc., and H-E-B Grocery Company, L.P. in the District Court of Harris County on February 14, 2025.

The case stems from an incident that occurred on April 28, 2024, when Corey Talbert visited an H-E-B store located at 20311 Champion Forest Dr., Spring, Texas. During his visit, Talbert slipped on grease that was present on the floor and sustained injuries as a result. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants were negligent in maintaining their premises and failed to warn customers about the hazardous condition. According to the petition, "the wet substance on the floor posed an unreasonable risk of harm," and the defendants "owed Plaintiff a duty to exercise ordinary care" in ensuring customer safety.

Talbert's lawsuit accuses H-E-B of breaching this duty by not adequately warning him or other patrons about the dangerous condition caused by the grease spill. The petition details several alleged failures by H-E-B, including not placing warning signs around the hazard and not taking measures to clean up or mitigate the spill promptly. The plaintiff asserts that these omissions directly resulted in his injuries.

In seeking justice through this lawsuit, Corey Talbert is asking for monetary relief exceeding $250,000 but not more than $1 million. He claims damages for past and future medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, and costs related to medical monitoring and prevention due to his injuries. Additionally, Talbert requests pre-judgment interest from the date of injury until judgment is rendered at the maximum rate allowed by law.

Representing Corey Talbert is attorney Christopher D. Bertini from Godsey Martin PC law firm based in Houston, Texas. The case has been assigned to Judge Marilyn Burgess under Case ID 2025-10465 in Harris County's 133rd Judicial District Court.
