HOUSTON — A deckhand alleges he was ordered to lift and handle heavy equipment without assistance and proper equipment which caused his back injuries.
Dylan Vick filed a complaint July 31 in Harris County District Court against Blessey Marine Services Inc., and Blessey Enterprises Inc., alleging negligence.
Vick, according to his complaint, was working as a deckhand for Blessey aboard the T/V James L. Oberstar on Dec. 4, 2022. He claims he was ordered to lift and handle heavy equipment without assistance or proper equipment which caused debilitating and serious injuries to his back. Vick alleges Blessey's negligence for failing to warn or take precautions for his safety and for ordering him to perform work in unsafe conditions.
He also alleges Blessey failed to adequately man the vessel or have adequate medical treatment. Vick claims Blessey's negligence for failing to hire a qualified crew or have adequate supervision. He further claims Blessey violated applicable Coast Guard and or OSHA rules and their negligence caused him to suffer pain, mental anguish, loss of earnings and incur medical expenses.
Vick seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by Joseph. Terry and L. Lee Thweatt of Terry & Thweatt PC in Houston.
