HOUSTON — A Kingwood-based employment agency is facing a suit from a worker alleging he was fired in retaliation for filing a Workers' Compensation claim.

Iris Torres filed a complaint Sept. 12 in Harris County District Court against Effex Management Solutions LLC alleging Workers' Compensation retaliation.

Torres claims that in December of 2022, he suffered an on-the-job injury and requested medical attention. He alleges that in January of 2023, Effex terminated his employment for a "pretextual reason motivated by retaliatory intent." Torres claims that as a result of his injury and termination, he has suffered economic losses and mental anguish and that he filed his Workers' Compensation claim in good faith. He further claims his injuries were a result of Effex's fraud and/or malice.

Torres seeks monetary relief of less than $250,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Javier Espinoza and Steven Sachs of Espinoza & Brock PLLC in San Antonio, Texas.
