Verizon hit with patent suit over smartwatch tech

WACO - An infringement lawsuit was recently brought against Cello Partnership (Verizon) alleging violation of a patent dealing with wearable technology.

Court records show SmartWatch MobileConcepts filed the suit on Oct. 27 in the U.S. District Court for Western Texas, Waco Division. 

According to the complaint, on July 23 2019, U.S. Patent No. 10,362,480 (the ‘480 patent) was issued and is currently owned by SmartWatch by assignment. 

The ‘480 patent, entitled “Systems, methods and apparatuses for enabling wearable device user access to secured electronics systems,” relates to apparatuses for enabling wearable device user access to secured electronic systems.

“Defendant has caused and will continue to cause Plaintiff damage by direct and indirect infringement of … the claims of the ’480 patent,” the suit states.

Court records also show that SmartWatch has brought related cases against Samsung, Google and T-Mobile USA.
