The Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) has received a grant of $48,000 from the Texas Bar Foundation to fund a multimedia website to educate students and the public about their rights and responsibilities under the law on reaching adulthood.
“Remember as a kid when you couldn’t wait to grow up?” asks TYLA President Laura Pratt. “You looked forward to making your own rules and doing whatever you wanted. Then you woke up one morning with enough birthdays to be legally considered an adult, only to find out that actual ‘adulting’ is way harder than you expected.”
The website, called Adulting, is expected to launch this spring. It will cover a wide range of legal topics, including contracts, consumer protection, healthcare, marriage, housing, employment, and more. The site will use short videos, resource guides, and other information to help young Texans understand their rights and responsibilities under the law.
Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $26 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.
