In February, South Texas College of Law Houston’s Career Resource Center and the Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement hosted their inaugural luncheon program D.I.N.E. with a J.D. — which brought together alumni and current law students.
During the event at a downtown restaurant, 16 students shared a complimentary three-course meal with alumni from South Texas Law, gain insights on navigating the legal profession as a first-generation lawyer or a second-career lawyer, and engaged in a meaningful dialogue with fellow students.
Students were divided into two groups. One group’s table captains were first-generation lawyers Samantha Torres ’13, attorney with Okin Adams Bartlett Curry LLP, and Anna Pham ’23, attorney with Hirsch and Westheimer PC.
The second group was inspired by second-career lawyer table captains Jasmine Martel ’20, attorney with Husch Blackwell LLP, and Gaspar Gonzalez ’21, attorney with Wilson Cribbs & Goren.
Torres shared this message with the coordinators: “Thanks for hosting this event! It was such a fun way to spend Friday, and it’s equally rewarding for us as attorneys to reflect on the past and on how far we have come, and to give the ‘what I wish I knew’ advice. The programs you all have implemented over the years are top notch!”
The next sessions of D.I.N.E. with a J.D. are planned for the end of March. Anyone interested in volunteering for this program, or others offered by the CRC or the Office of Advancement and Alumni engagement, should email alumni@stcl.edu.
