HOUSTON - A woman is claiming a doormat at a Family Thrift Center was not positioned for safe footing or to soak up water, and that the rainy weather should have alerted the store to the potential hazard.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Essena Farr filed suit against Youth Educational Services (Family Thrift) on May 16 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Nov. 13, 2023, Farr entered Family Thrift and slipped on a watery substance and fell.

“Although there was a mat near the door, it was not positioned for safe footing or to soak up the water directly in front of the door,” the suit states. “Moreover, the rainy weather outside should have alerted the defendant to the potential hazard of a wet floor and the need of a wet floor sign.”

Farr is alleging negligence.

She is represented by the Morehead Law Group.
