A Harris County resident has filed a lawsuit against a local spa, alleging severe injuries due to negligence. Latonya L. Everett-Coney filed the complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on July 31, 2024, accusing Gangnam Spa, LLC of causing her significant harm.
According to the petition, on March 20, 2023, Everett-Coney visited Gangnam Spa located at 4055 Highway 6 North in Houston. While on the premises, she was exposed to a UV light device that resulted in serious burns to her abdomen. The plaintiff claims these injuries have led to permanent burns, scarring, and disfigurement. She asserts that the incident occurred without any warning or instruction from the spa's staff.
Everett-Coney alleges that Gangnam Spa failed in its duty of care by not providing adequate safety instructions concerning the UV light device and failing to warn of its risks and dangers. The petition lists several specific accusations against the spa: failure to inspect and maintain the UV light device properly; failure to prevent injuries from occurring; inadequate training for employees; and lack of proper procedures and policies for handling such incidents. "Defendant owed a duty to Plaintiff to exercise ordinary care in ownership, possession, control, maintenance, and use of Defendant’s premises," states the petition.
The plaintiff is seeking actual damages exceeding $250,000 but not more than $1 million. She requests compensation for past and future pain and mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, disfigurement, physical impairment, medical expenses, and other economic losses. Additionally, Everett-Coney seeks both pre-judgment and post-judgment interest as allowed by law.
The case is being handled by Erik S. Gonzalez from The Stano Law Firm. It has been assigned Case ID 2024-48310 in Harris County's 133rd District Court with Judge Cynthia Clausell-McGowan presiding.
