A Houston woman has filed a lawsuit against two corporations, alleging negligence that led to her serious injury. Veronica Sanchez filed the complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, on September 5, 2024, against Pawn TX, Inc., and FirstCash, Inc.

According to the court documents, Veronica Sanchez is seeking justice for an incident that occurred on January 4, 2023. On that day, Sanchez tripped and fell over a door frame undergoing repair at a location operated by the defendants at 133 E. Crosstimbers St., Houston, Texas. The plaintiff claims that both Pawn TX and FirstCash were aware or should have been aware of the hazardous condition but failed to take appropriate action to remedy it. As a result of this alleged negligence, Sanchez sustained serious personal injuries.

The complaint details how the incident was allegedly caused by the "negligence and gross negligence" of both defendants. It asserts that they had a duty to provide a safe environment for their customers but failed in this responsibility. "The Defendants’ failure to remedy the dangerous condition caused Plaintiff's injuries," states the petition.

Sanchez is seeking monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1,000,000 for various damages she claims resulted from the incident. These include physical pain and mental anguish experienced both in the past and anticipated in the future; lost wages and loss of earning capacity; physical disfigurement; physical impairment; medical expenses incurred and expected in the future; exemplary damages; and any other damages allowed by law and equity.

Additionally, Sanchez requests prejudgment interest at the maximum legal rate. She is asking for actual and compensatory damages as determined by evidence presented during trial, along with pre-judgment and post-judgment interest as provided by law. The plaintiff also seeks recovery of court costs, exemplary damages for gross negligence, attorney's fees, and any other relief deemed just by the court.

The case is being handled by Kraig L. Rushing of Rushing Law Firm based in Houston. The case ID is 2024-59565 and it has been assigned to Court 127 under Judge Marilyn Burgess.
