Reed Smith announced that Peter Chassman, partner and chair of the firmwide Intellectual Property Group, was selected as Texas Lawyer’s IP Attorney of the Year at the annual Texas Legal Awards.
Texas Legal Awards celebrate “trailblazing attorneys” in the state who “shaped the law” and “achieved extraordinary outcomes for their clients.” Julie Hardin, managing partner, Americas, was a finalist for Influential Woman of the Year, and Austin Office Managing Partner Rebecca (Becca) Jones McKnight was a finalist for Best Mentor. Chassman, Hardin and McKnight were recognized at the annual Texas Legal Awards on Oct. 15 in Dallas.
Chassman was honored for his success and achievements in IP law, specifically for stand-out cases of 2023. He joined the firm’s Houston office in 2015, and currently leads a group of more than 85 attorneys. With a background in electrical and computer engineering, Chassman has more than 30 years of experience and is recognized as an especially effective trial lawyer in high-value, high-tech cases related to patent infringement, licensing, trade secrets and commercial contract disputes for leading national and international companies.
He has represented clients in numerous patent and commercial cases in U.S. federal district courts nationwide, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, U.S. International Trade Commission, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Chassman has been recognized for his professional achievements previously. He was ranked in Chambers USA for Texas Intellectual Property from 2014 through 2024. He was named an IP Star by MIP (2013-2024) and among The World’s Leading Patent Litigators by IAM. He is a go-to lawyer for complex IP litigations and other cutting-edge IP matters.
