A Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against a popular entertainment venue, alleging negligence and premises liability after suffering injuries from a fall. Maria Johnson initiated the legal action on October 15, 2024, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, naming TopGolf International, Inc. as the defendant.

The complaint stems from an incident that occurred on March 24, 2023, when Johnson visited a Top Golf location at 1030 Memorial Brook Blvd in Houston for an event. According to the petition, as Johnson and her husband were checking into the event and walking towards the open bays, she slipped on slick flooring and fell violently. Despite attempting to stand up again, she fell once more due to the slippery surface, resulting in serious injuries. A manager from Top Golf reportedly assisted her and cleaned the floor afterward.

Johnson's lawsuit accuses TopGolf International of failing to maintain safe premises for its patrons. The plaintiff claims that as an invitee—someone present for mutual economic benefit—TopGolf had a duty to ensure the safety of its premises by inspecting for defects or dangerous conditions and addressing them promptly. The petition states that "Defendant knew or should have known that the unreasonably dangerous conditions existed," yet failed to rectify them or warn guests adequately.

In addition to premises liability, Johnson alleges negligence on part of TopGolf International. She argues that the company neglected its responsibility to perform proper inspections and maintenance of their facilities. The complaint lists several specific failures: inadequate employee training regarding safety procedures, lack of warning signs near hazardous areas like slick floors, and failure to provide safe alternatives for accessing certain parts of the venue.

Maria Johnson is seeking damages exceeding $1 million for physical pain and mental anguish suffered due to her injuries. She also requests compensation for lost earnings and future earning capacity along with medical expenses incurred because of this incident. Furthermore, she demands pre-judgment and post-judgment interest at maximum legal rates as well as costs associated with pursuing this lawsuit.

Representing Maria Johnson is Francisco Guerra IV from Guerra LLP based in San Antonio. The case has been assigned Case ID 2024-71641 under Judge Taiasha Bradford at Harris County's 80th Judicial District Court.
