Robert L. Knauss, a former dean at the University of Houston Law Center, passed away on October 16. He was 93 years old.
Dean Knauss served at the helm of UH Law Center from 1981-1993.
Among his many accomplishments, Dean Knauss led the school through the name change from Bates College of Law to the University of Houston Law Center. This change was designed to focus on UH Law being more than a law school but being a true academic center and leader in the specialized areas of tax, international, health, environmental/energy, and intellectual property/information law, solidifying its national reputation.
During his tenure, UH Law was also inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif, solidifying the law school’s scholarly reputation.
