Jennifer Banda ’98, a lawyer and advocate with over 25 years of leadership in state and federal government relations, will become the new executive director of the Center for Women in Law effective Nov. 11, 2024.
“We’re thrilled to have Jennifer lead the Center as we continue to build opportunities for lawyers to connect, engage, and grow in the legal profession,” says Cisselon Nichols Hurd ’91, president of CWIL’s executive committee. “Jennifer’s extensive track record of empowering women throughout her legal career and deep roots in policy and advocacy on key issues impacting women will keep the Center on track for advancing its strategic objectives and continued success.”
“Jennifer’s leadership and commitment to Texas Law make her an excellent choice to advance the Center’s mission,” says Dean Bobby Chesney. “With her deep knowledge and experience in public policy and advocacy and mentorship, she is the ideal person to take on this important role. I’m looking forward to working with her.”
Housed at Texas Law, CWIL is devoted to the success of the entire spectrum of women in law—from first-year law students to the most experienced and accomplished attorneys. The Center’s in-person and virtual programming is open to all.
Banda, a sixth-generation Texan, earned both her bachelor’s and law degrees from UT and is licensed to practice law in the state of Texas. Most recently, she served as senior vice president for advocacy and public policy at the Texas Hospital Association. Her career also includes leadership roles in the Texas House, Texas Senate, and on Capitol Hill.
“As an advocate and mentor for women in law, I know the Center’s work can play an important part in the success of all women in the legal profession,” Banda says. “It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to build on CWIL’s track record of success.”
